Al Roker prostate exam on TV did not amuse Health News Review

Nice thoughtful piece, as usual, from Dr Gary Schwitzer and company at Health News

Though the Today show ran a piece on prostate screening, the doc on camera cites old recommendations on screening.  No balanced information is presented on the nuances of prostate cancer screening.  National cancer and urology organizations have often conflicting recommendations on prostate cancer screening.

Prostate screening is getting a lot of attention based on the “Movember” push to increase awareness.  This disease is still a challenging problem for patients, families, and physicians.  We are making good progress, but we still have a long way to go in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.  Patients need to discuss screening options with their doctors and make informed decisions armed with the best information.

Organizations like Health News Review are doing a great job to make sure the media presents balanced, scientific information to the public about health topics.
